Andrea Carteny received a MA in Humanities and a Ph.D. in History of Europe both from the Sapienza University of Rome. He is currently an associate professor in the faculty of literature and philosophy and teaches courses for the faculty of political sciences as well as sociology and communication sciences. Since 2014 he has served as the Rector's delegate for students’ international mobility. He joins the Nanovic Institute as Notre Dame's Visiting Italian Fulbright Scholar for the spring 2021 semester.

Carteny’s research field is mainly focused on the concept of national identity, nationalism, ethnocentrism, and on Euro Asian History and pan-Turanism. He has published several articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and two monographs. Over the years he has participated in various conferences and workshops, has been a visiting professor in many countries including Taiwan, Hungary, Portugal, Kosovo, Tunisia, Montenegro, and Romania.
