Today we celebrate Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the Lenten season. Mass will be celebrated in the Basilica every two hours beginning at 6 a.m. and concluding with Misa en Español at 8 p.m. Confessions will be offered from 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Crypt.
Additional Masses will be offered in the evening at various locations around campus. Click here to view the complete schedule.
In an effort to distribute ashes in a safe and responsible manner during the Coronavirus pandemic, the Holy See has asked that ashes be sprinkled on the crown of the head, rather than signed on the forehead. This ancient tradition is still quite common in many other countries for Ash Wednesday. It helps us remember the Gospel command to "not look gloomy like the hypocrites" for our "Father who sees what is hidden will repay you."
