Dear Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Scholars,
As you may have learned, the University is taking additional steps in response to COVID-19 to address the health and safety of all of you as well as our faculty and staff members who support online teaching and research. A recent communication states that “these steps will also position us for additional anticipated measures that state and local governments are likely to take to control the spread of the coronavirus.”
As a part of this effort, the University announced that campus libraries should prepare to suspend physical access to library patrons by Friday, March 27, at 5:00pm.
This letter is written to inform you about how we will:
- manage the ramp-down process for the Hesburgh Library building, and
- keep you remotely connected to library expertise, services, and online/digital resources.
Hesburgh Libraries Service Continuity
The Hesburgh Libraries will continue to provide service continuity via virtual access to expertise, online/digital resources, and remote services in support of teaching and learning. During this time, our expertise and services are just a phone call, email, or Zoom consultation away.
We encourage you to visit our Library Service Continuity webpage and consult with subject librarians and liaisons as often as needed. You may also find information and resources at coronavirus.nd.edu. Highlights of special interest include:
- Access to licensed content through OneSearch and the Library Databases and E-Resources list
- Uploading learning materials via our Hesburgh Libraries Reserves system
- Expanded digital content now available from academic publishers
- Contact information for subject librarians
Procedure to vacate and move print materials to remote locations
Our goal is to facilitate a smooth process as you check-out and transport your research materials to your remote location during these unprecedented times.
Please plan to use the Self-check Machines.
Check-out any materials not already checked out as soon as possible or by 4:30 pm on Thursday, March 26.
All materials must be removed before 5:00 pm on Friday, March 27.
The library will provide tote bags and/or boxes so that you can package and transport research materials to your remote location. Bags and boxes will be available at a table near the South Entrance, while supplies last.
Throughout this ramp-down period, please remember health practices, including maintaining social distance and washing your hands frequently.
Please note, the Book Drop will be locked by the end of the day on March 27th. Please do not plan to return materials until the Hesburgh Library reopens.
