Provost Miranda and EVP Cullinan: Spring Update #15

Note: Dated communications are archived here for reference, but may not reflect the most up-to-date information available.

Dear Colleagues:

With commencement less than a month away, the weather in northern Indiana continues to tease us with 30-degree temperature swings. That said, it appears we have a nice weekend in store for the annual spring Blue-Gold Game and the kickoff of the virtual IDEA Week, which celebrates entrepreneurship and innovation across the South Bend-Elkhart region. Thanks to the many people supporting each of these major activities as we continue to manage through these unusual times. Here is a brief update.

Round two of COVID-19 vaccinations

Starting this Thursday, April 29, and continuing through next Thursday, May 6, we will be offering the second round of COVID-19 vaccinations for students, faculty, staff, and family members who received their first dose on campus. As a reminder to instructors, please be mindful of and flexible to the needs of students who may be experiencing after-effects from their second dose. Everything we can do to support students puts us a step closer to a healthier and more resilient campus community.

Seeking vaccination site volunteers

Just as in the first round of the vaccination campaign, we are seeking volunteers to serve as greeters and to perform a variety of non-medical, administrative functions from April 29 through May 6. Daily volunteer shifts are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Training is available onsite for all volunteers. To sign up for a shift, please fill out this form.

Reminder to upload vaccination documentation

Currently, roughly 60% of faculty and 41% of staff have uploaded proof of vaccination or received one shot at the Compton site. Once you have received your second COVID-19 vaccination shot, we ask that you please upload your vaccination information here. Understanding the extent of vaccination among our faculty and staff will guide our decisions regarding public health protocols for the fall semester. When you successfully upload your documentation, you will receive a confirmation e-mail.

Closing thoughts

As this semester nears its successful conclusion, we again thank each and every one of you for your many contributions to our mission and students. Your efforts, dedication, and hard work during the past 14 months has been remarkable and a continuing source of encouragement for us and our entire Notre Dame family.

Unnamed

Please remember:

  • Wear your mask
  • Practice physical distancing
  • Wash your hands frequently
  • Complete your daily health check
  • Keep your scheduled testing appointments

And, as our young friend, Elizabeth Marie, reminds us: Don't forget to stop and smell the flowers.

Yours in Notre Dame,

Marie Lynn Miranda, Provost
