Dear Undergraduate, Professional, and Graduate Students,
We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are enjoying a restful Winter Break. We are preparing for the start of the spring semester on Wednesday, Feb. 3, and look forward to welcoming you back to campus again.
As you make plans for your return, here is some important information about the University's pre-matriculation testing requirements for the spring semester.
- Undergraduate and professional students must schedule an appointment to complete a pre-matriculation test at the University Testing Center and take the test as soon as they return to campus or the local area. Based on guidance from public health officials, appointments for on-campus students have been staggered to ensure that, to the extent possible, roommates do not move in on the same day and that no more than 20 percent of a given hall arrives on the same day.
- Because the majority of doctoral and masters students have remained on campus and stayed in the South Bend area over Winter Break, and have regularly participated in weekly surveillance testing, pre-matriculation testing is not required for these students, but it is strongly encouraged and is available.
- To avoid contagion, all students taking pre-matriculation tests as they return to campus must avoid contact with others to the greatest extent possible until they receive their test results. Saliva test results are expected to be available in 24 hours or less. Students awaiting test results must remain in their residence hall rooms or off-campus residences. They must also use carry out or delivery for meals or groceries and eat by themselves until they are cleared.
You may schedule an appointment for your pre-matriculation test beginning on Wednesday, Dec. 16, and we ask that you to do so by Friday, Dec. 18, as the majority of University departments will be closed between Saturday, Dec. 19 and Tuesday, Jan. 5.
If you have questions that are not answered on the Student Pre-Matriculation webpage, please call the COVID-19 Response Unit (CRU) hotline at 574-631-HERE before Dec. 19, or after Jan. 5.
With the changing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, should the University need to adapt these plans in the coming weeks, we will communicate this information promptly. We continue to monitor conditions locally and nationally, and will make any needed adjustments to ensure the health and safety of everyone in our community.
We wish you and your families a joyful Christmas season.
