Dear Members of the Notre Dame Undergraduate Community:
Now that Reading Days have begun, many of you are quite busy completing capstone projects, writing essays, and preparing for final examinations. Those of us that have had the pleasure of advising, teaching, and mentoring you this year have been moved by the grace with which you have managed the various educational and related disruptions accompanying the COVID-19 pandemic.
We are proud of and grateful for all you have done, especially in the past eight weeks, to embody those ideals that are the heart and soul of the undergraduate experience at Notre Dame. Your patience, commitment to values-based education, and support of one another have been truly inspirational.
As the final days of Spring 2020 draw nigh, I encourage you to be mindful of physical, emotional, and spiritual self-care, even as you devote your energies to completing all of the items on your various "to do" lists. Should you: lack clarity about the nature of assignments to be turned in, require assistance in studying for examinations, or even need a supportive ear to listen to your concerns, please reach out to your course instructors and academic advisors as soon as possible. We are more than willing to assist you.
Please consult the online Learning Continuity page if you have questions about resource availability now or during Final Exam Week. For an update on a recent policy intended further to promote academic honesty (applicable this semester and related to our Pass/No Credit option), see the Honor Code & Academic Integrity page.
Most of all, remember that our community of learning consists of more than the stone, bricks, and mortar of the buildings and sacred places on our campus. It is also made up of those intellectual endeavors and dreams — collectively nurtured over time — from which our future possibilities grow, even during times of crisis.
We are — wherever we are and whatever we do — Notre Dame. Let us support one another, in the spirit of that Love whose power transforms all things, as we bring Spring Semester 2020 to a successful close. You are, and will remain, in my thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.
(The Rev. Canon) Hugh R. Page, Jr., DMin, PhD, LHD
