Student Vaccination Requirement

The University will require all students to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before arriving on campus for the 2021 summer sessions and the 2021-22 academic year.

Summer 2021

  • COVID-19 vaccination is required for Notre Dame Students who will be on campus for more than 7 consecutive days during the summer.
  • Requirement applies to all University Summer Programs, both on-campus and off-campus (including Chicago, Land O' Lakes, etc.).
  • Students must be vaccinated before the start of the program, or begin vaccination protocol within 72 hours upon returning to campus.

Fall 2021

  • All undergraduate, graduate, and professional students are required to be fully vaccinated before arriving on campus for the fall semester.

Accepted Vaccines

To meet the University’s requirement, a vaccine must be officially approved by a federal agency within the United States. Students who have access to vaccines outside of the approved vaccinations in the US should contact University Health Services (UHS) for evaluation on a case-by-case basis.

Access to Vaccines

Students who are unable to access an accepted vaccine in their home state or country should contact UHS for consultation at least four weeks prior to arrival. Continuing students should make appointments in the community as soon as possible and consult UHS if they have difficulty accessing vaccination.

Documentation of your vaccination should be completed prior to arrival on campus. If you are a student and received a vaccination off-campus, complete the COVID vaccination submission form and attach an image of your completed vaccine card to your UHS Patient Portal. You should only complete the form after you have completed your vaccination series. Use the "My Forms" feature and click "COVID Vaccination - Students."

Students in academic programs who will spend fewer than 7 consecutive days on campus are exempt from the requirement, though vaccination is still strongly recommended.

The University also offers students the opportunity to apply for medical or religious exemptions. Exemptions are determined on a case-by-case basis, and in each case must be supported by specific documentation. To request an exemption, students should email UHS at immunizations@nd.edu. Please make sure to include your NDID#.
