2020 Football Season

New for 2020

  • Masks must be worn on campus at all times (other than while eating or drinking) and are a requirement (without exceptions for medical reasons) to enter Notre Dame Stadium. (Children under the age of 2 are not required to wear masks.)
  • All attendees are required to practice physical distancing throughout the duration of the game and are only permitted to be seated in their designated seat location.
  • Tailgating, loitering and open containers will not be permitted anywhere on campus.
  • During a home football weekend (Friday and Saturday), there will be no game day related activations, events, hospitality, or gatherings on campus, outside of the football game itself. Game day traditions, such as the Player Walk, pep rallies and Friday tunnel tours will not take place.
  • The Band of the Fighting Irish and Notre Dame Cheerleaders will perform from the Notre Dame Stadium stands. There will be no additional game day related band or cheer performances on campus or on the Stadium field. 
  • Campus buildings, including the Joyce Center, will not be open to the public on game day. Exceptions to this include the Hammes Notre Dame Bookstore and Morris Inn, unless otherwise specified.
  • Post-game Mass will be offered 30-minutes following the conclusion of the game and on Sundays at 8am and 10am at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. The full Mass schedule is reflected on the Campus Ministry website.
  • The Murnane Family Ticket Office windows will not be open on home football game days. Ticket resolution stations will be operational on gameday and located at Notre Dame Stadium gates A, B, C, and E.
  • Concession outlets typically located outside the stadium and at other locations throughout campus will not be available (e.g. portable stands, student concessions, etc)

Health and Safety

  • Masks must be worn on campus at all times (other than while eating or drinking) and are a requirement (without exceptions for medical reasons) to enter Notre Dame Stadium.
    • Children under the age of 2 are not required to wear masks. 
  • All attendees are required to practice physical distancing throughout the duration of the game and are only permitted to be seated in their designated seat location.
  • Prior to coming to campus, all attendees are required to conduct a personal health check. To reduce the risk of transmission, those who are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 or who have been in close contact with an individual who has tested positive should not attend the game. 
  • As part of the University's efforts to provide a safe and sanitary environment, "HERE" campaign signage is located throughout the Stadium that is consistent with the guidelines promulgated by the Centers for Disease Control and local health officials. 
  • Robust stadium cleaning and sanitation protocols have been developed to address high touch surfaces, restrooms and concession stands. 
  • Hand sanitizing stations have been positioned throughout the concourses.

Parking and Transportation

2020 Football Parking Map

  • Parking lots will open 2.5 hours prior to kick off for ticketed guests. Parking will be complimentary and a mobile game ticket must be shown to gain entrance to the controlled event lots on game day.
  • Zipper parking will continue this season with all cars using the Joyce, Compton, Stadium, and Walsh Architecture lots. Additional parking in White Field and the Burke Golf Course will not be utilized.
  • Shuttle Services will not be utilized during the 2020 season based on stadium capacity and proximity of parking.
  • ADA parking will be available within the various lots with ADA-designated spots.
  • Courtesy carts will not be available.

Tailgating Policies

  • Any form of tailgating on campus will not be permitted during the 2020 season. 
    • Guests are prohibited from loitering in parking lots after parking their vehicle. 
    • Alcoholic beverages are prohibited on campus and in University parking lots.


  • For guests attending the game, mobile ticketing will be instituted for all ticketed sports at the University. Available via a fan’s smartphone, mobile ticketing will offer a secure, convenient, and, most importantly, contactless exchange of tickets when entering events on campus. 
    • Suggested entry times and designated gates will be included on and encouraged via mobile tickets.
    • Mobile tickets will be colored based on the type & location of entry:
      • ND Students - Green - Gates A, C, and E
      • ND Faculty & Staff - Blue - Gate B
      • External (visiting team) Guests - Red - Gate B, Southernmost portal

  • Ticket resale is not permitted.
  • Notre Dame Faculty and Staff attending the game should be prepared to show a Notre Dame ID to enter the Stadium or while seated in the faculty/staff sections on game day. 
  • Students attending the game will be expected to show a valid Notre Dame ID upon entry.

Ticket Resolution Stations

  • Mobile ticket resolution stations will be located at Notre Dame Stadium gates A, B, C, and E.

Murnane Family Ticket Office

  • The Murnane Family Ticket Office windows will be closed on game day. All ticket needs or exchanges will take place at the resolution stations.

Entrance to Stadium

  • Stadium gates and doors of Corbett and Duncan will open two hours prior to kick off. Ticketed patrons are encouraged to arrive at their suggested entry time and maintain physical distancing while in line. 
  • Guests will be directed to enter an assigned gate or door, as indicated on their mobile ticket. 
  • Gates A, B, C, and E will be available for fan ingress. 
  • ADA customers who are seated in the upper bowl are encouraged to enter via Gates A (students) and B (all other guests) due to the location of the elevator on the east side of the Stadium
  • The existing Clear Bag Policy will remain in effect for the 2020 season. Clear Bag Policy
  • Modified Screening:
    • Designated entry lanes at each gate have been spread out to accommodate physical distancing in line queues.
    • A modified, contactless screening process will be implemented for fans upon entry. Fans will be directed to carry their approved clear bag through the Stadium gate metal detectors (rather than removing items from bags and placing onto trays).
    • Guests will not be required to remove belts, cell phones, coins, jewelry, watches, wallets, shoes, or other small objects (keep items in pockets).
  • Changes to the permitted/prohibited items include:
    • Permitted: Hand sanitizer (not to exceed 4oz.) 
    • Permitted for ND, SMC, HC students only: Translucent, plastic, empty water vessels not to exceed 32oz (for example, an empty Dasani water bottle is permitted)
    • Prohibited: Halloween-style masks (CDC approved masks required)

  • Guest Entry: 
    • Gate A, C, and E are designated for Notre Dame students 
    • Gate B is designated for Notre Dame faculty & staff as well as the limited number of external guests, who will enter via the far southernmost portal.
    • Gate D will not be available for ingress


  • For the first 2 home games on September 12 and 19, no food will be offered in concession stands. Bottled water and soft drinks will be available for purchase. Thank you for your understanding, as the health and safety of our community is our highest priority.
    • As a reminder guests are prohibited from bringing their own food or beverages into Notre Dame Stadium on game day.


  • The Hammes Notre Dame Bookstore will open at 8 a.m. and close one hour post-game.
  • Retail shops located inside Notre Dame Stadium on the lower main concourse will be open (The mid level and upper level retail shops will not be open).
  • Plexiglass shields will be installed at all operational retail points of sale.
  • Credit card readers are pin pad enabled and will be sanitized between transactions. Guests will not be in contact with the cashier.
  • Portable retail locations outside Notre Dame Stadium, the Stadium Shop outside Gate B and the Leep Varsity Shop at the Joyce Center will not be operational this season.

Stadium Amenities

  • Throughout the stadium, modifications have been implemented to promote contactless engagement and transactions. Cash transactions will strongly be discouraged this season.
    • Printed game programs will not be available for sale this season. On a game-by-game basis, a complimentary digital program can be downloaded at und.com.
    • The seat cushion program will not be available in the Stadium concourse for fans to rent on a game-by-game or on a season-long basis.
    • Phone charging stations will not be available inside Notre Dame Stadium this season (concourse or premium areas).
    • ATM Machines will not be available inside or outside Notre Dame Stadium.
    • Drinking fountains inside Notre Dame Stadium will not be operational, however, complimentary water filling stations will be available for students inside Gates A, C, and E on the lower concourse.


  • All elevators will have reduced capacities and will feature “HERE we stand” decals on cab floors and “Maximum Occupancy” signs inside cab walls.
  • The Stadium elevator in the east concourse (near section 10/110) will be available for ADA patrons. 


  • All restrooms inside Notre Dame Stadium will be open and available to guests, in order to accommodate physical distancing and reduce line queues.
  • Restrooms will be cleaned and disinfected throughout the duration of the game. 
  • Restroom doors will remain propped open whenever possible.

First Aid

  • The following First Aid Rooms will be open on game day:
    • At section 11 (east side, lower concourse)
    • At sections 109/110 (east side, upper concourse)
    • At sections 128/129 (west side, upper concourse)
  • The First Aid Room located on the west side, lower concourse will be closed.
  • First Aid Rooms will be disinfected prior to and throughout the game. 
  • For health and safety reasons, First Aid Rooms will not be available for nursing mothers. For more information or to access the new room designated for nursing mothers during the game, please see a Stadium usher.

Exiting the Stadium

  • Guests should use best judgment when departing the Stadium. Take time while leaving and respect others' desire for physical distancing.
  • If at any time during the game, an emergency situation arises, guests will be notified via public address and the videoboard. In the event of inclement weather, fans will be directed to shelter in place in the Stadium concourses. Surrounding buildings have also been identified in the event the concourse capacity is exceeded.   • Tailgating is not permitted post-game.

Other Home Athletics Events

  • Until further notice, while the University is in session during the fall semester, spectators will not be allowed at home sporting events unless otherwise noted.
